Butadiene

The Butadiene Extraction plant is the first Butadiene production facility in Africa. Butadiene is a crucial hydrocarbon compound. It is a colorless gas with a mild aromatic odor, and it plays a pivotal role in various industrial applications.

While butadiene is a valuable industrial chemical, it's important to highlight the industry's commitment to environmental responsibility. Manufacturers employ advanced technologies and processes to minimize environmental impact and ensure sustainable production practices.

Extractive distillation section produces 20 KTA polymer grade 1,3 butadiene that is exported to several countries around the world.  To be used as a building block for several important polymers and elastomers. Its importance in various industries underscores its role as a foundational element in the production of essential materials that impact our daily lives.

Applications:

  1. Synthetic Rubber Production:

Butadiene is a key raw material for the production of synthetic rubber, particularly styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and polybutadiene rubber (PBR). These rubbers find extensive use in tire manufacturing, providing enhanced traction, durability, and performance.

  1. Polymer Manufacturing:

Butadiene is a vital component in the production of various polymers, including acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and styrene-butadiene (SB) copolymers. These polymers are widely employed in the manufacture of consumer goods, automotive parts, and household appliances.

  1. Latex Production:

Butadiene-based latex is utilized in the production of adhesives, coatings, and sealants. It imparts flexibility and durability to the final products, making them suitable for a range of applications.

  1. Plastic Modifiers:

Butadiene is employed as a modifier in the production of certain plastics, enhancing their toughness and impact resistance. This is particularly valuable in applications where durability is critical.
