In line with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy—specifically the second pillar, which focuses on maximizing the value of petroleum resources through refining and petrochemicals, and the fifth pillar, which emphasizes creating an attractive investment climate while ensuring safety, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction—the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) has signed an agreement for the storage and handling of Hexene with Alexandria Company for Chemicals Storage and Handling.
The agreement was signed by Chemist Hesham Riyad, Chairman and Managing Director of ETHYDCO, and Eng. Gamal Dandan, General Manager of Operations and Board Member of ( Alex CT )
The contract aims to utilize the facilities of ( Alex CT ) Company for Chemicals Storage and Handling at Dekheila Port for storing and handling Hexene using marine tankers, instead of the current system relying on isotanks.
This agreement represents a continuation of the successful partnership between Egypt’s petroleum sector companies and the private sector, achieving mutual objectives of optimizing resources and assets. ETHYDCO seeks to ensure sustainable supply chains, increase reliability, and stabilize production processes by enhancing the availability of key feedstock materials to meet the rapidly changing demands of its customers across various product lines.
The project fully meets occupational safety and health requirements in line with the Ministry’s standards, which are consistent with international practices. It also contributes to reducing the company’s carbon footprint by minimizing transportation and packaging operations, while lowering handling risks and decreasing the potential for leakage incidents compared to the use of isotanks.
Additionally, ETHYDCO has implemented an innovative contracting model that reduces the total cost of hexene by up to 20% annually, shortens delivery times, streamlines customs procedures, optimizes storage space, and enhances production planning for hexene-based feedstock.
It is noteworthy that Hexene is a critical component in the production of both high-density and low-density polyethylene, with applications across a wide range of industrial sectors.
