ETHYDCO Organizes Safety Stand Under the Slogan “Your Report Makes a Difference... Safety Is a Shared Responsibility”

In line with the directives of Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and
Mineral Resources, on the importance of continuously monitoring and developing
safety systems and procedures across petroleum sector companies, raising safety
awareness, and fostering a culture of reporting hazards and near-miss
incidents, and under the follow-up of Chemist Alaa Abdel Fattah, Chairman of
the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), the Egyptian Ethylene and
Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) organized a safety stand under the slogan “Your
Report Makes a Difference... Safety Is a Shared Responsibility.”
The initiative underscored the importance of maintaining a safe and
sustainable working environment and safeguarding all elements of the production
process.
The safety stand was attended by Chemist Hesham Riyad, Chairman and Managing
Director of ETHYDCO; Chemist Mohamed Mahmoud, General Manager of Occupational
Safety and Health; a number of general managers; and employees from various
departments across the company.
The activities included a tour of the ethylene and polyethylene plants,
during which participants discussed the causes and factors that may contribute
to near-miss incidents, as well as the importance of identifying and reporting
potential hazards before they escalate into more serious incidents. This
proactive approach enables the implementation of preventive measures to
mitigate risks and help prevent accidents.
The safety stand also highlighted the importance of reporting hazards and
near-miss incidents and their role in identifying potential gaps in safety
procedures and protocols. Such reporting helps address underlying causes,
unsafe conditions, and unsafe behaviors, while contributing to the continuous
development of the safety management system and more effective risk management.
During the activities, emphasis was placed on full compliance with safety
instructions and procedures at worksites and the proper use of personal
protective equipment (PPE). Participants stressed that the slogan “Your Report
Makes a Difference... Safety Is a Shared Responsibility” is more than just a
slogan; it conveys a clear message that safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Every observation or report of a potential hazard can help prevent an accident,
and every individual has a vital role in protecting their own safety and that
of their colleagues.
Chemist Hesham Riyad emphasized that the “Your Report Makes a Difference”
initiative contributes to strengthening the company’s safety culture and
encourages employees to actively participate and remain continuously vigilant
in identifying and reporting hazards.
He added that the involvement of all employees in the safety system
reinforces a collective approach to risk management, contributes to building a
strong and sustainable safety culture, and instills in every individual a sense
of responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their colleagues.
