Within the framework of the petroleum sector's endeavor to achieve sustainable development in the implementation of Egypt's Vision 2030 to preserve Egypt's resources and natural wealth of water and energy, save the environment, and achieve sustainable development, both the General Administration of Environmental Protection and the Training Department of the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Co (ETHYDCO), in cooperation with the Alexandria Water Company, organized a day to raise awareness of the importance of preserving water, rationalizing its use, and raising awareness among workers concerning this issue.
The activities of the day, which was organized in the ETHYDCO’s auditorium, were witnessed by Hisham Riad, ETHYDCO Chairman , Eng. Ahmed Gaber, Chairman of Alexandria Water Company, and a large number of ETHYDCO employees and contractors The events were also attended by a number of experts, concerned persons, and managers of the Awareness Department of the Alexandria Water Company.
Eng. Ahmed Gaber, Chairman of the Alexandria Water Company, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the leading role of the petroleum sector companies in providing all kinds of support for the efforts made by the Alexandria Water Company in delivering clean water to the most needy areas, and pointed out that ETHYDCO since the first day of its opening, is an environmentally friendly company and a model in achieving sustainable development work.
Chem. Hisham Riad pointed out that the opening of ETHYDCO came as a part of the strategy of the Ministry of Petroleum to use advanced technologies whose outputs do not negatively affect the environment and ETHYDCO is one of the first companies in Egypt and the Middle East to apply ZLD technology, which is a fully industrial wastewater treatment technology to produce different types of water for industrial use in, which achieves savings in the use of Nile water by 70% and pointed out that ETHYDCO adopts the idea of a circular economy not only through water recycling, but also through recycling of unfinished products, which are wastes from the polyethylene production and is one of the environmental solutions and the preservation of Egypt's natural wealth using waste and addressing areas of cooperation with the Alexandria Water Company in the fields of delivering drinking water to deprived areas in the villages of Al-Nahda in Amreya as one of the elements of sustainable development.
The events included lectures on the importance of water consumption rationalization, its benefits, and ways to achieve it, and a dialogue took place about the services of the Alexandria Water Company and ways to obtain them. Several competitions were organized, and gifts were distributed to the attendees and winners, including water-saving devices.
